Paris is raising taxes on empty houses to the foreigners

Paris raises the municipal tax (taxe d'habitation) for vacant housings, whose owners are the foreigners, says the international portal about real estate The Move Channel.

According to the official data for the past 15 years, the number of homeowners, non – residents increased by 43%, while the number of people employed by tenants of houses increased by only 3%. Thus, 10% of the 1.1 million homes in Paris are owned by foreigners. The city authorities are concerned that the abundance of empty houses affects the availability of market housing for local residents.

Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, increases municipally tax for the careless foreigners from 20% to 60%. Thus the mayor of the French capital hopes to stimulate the owners to use, rent or sell real estate.
